The recording of my route is distorted (straight lines, zigzags, etc.)

Straight lines

General settings

When recording a track or following a route, you may have difficulty obtaining a correct route. For example:

  • No points appear on the map
  • The distance does not increase even though you have moved
  • You see long straight lines that do not follow the path

There are several causes for this type of problem, but most tracking issues are due to difficulties the phone has in determining your location.

For this to work properly:

  • Update the app
  • Allow the app to use your location
  • Disable power saving mode
  • Allow the app to run in the background
  • Check that no phone optimisation apps (antivirus, cleaner, etc.) are forcing energy-saving mode
  • Do not use other apps at the same time. Smartphones are designed to disable apps at any time to free up memory for a foreground app
  • Avoid storing your device at the bottom of your bag. GPS signals come from satellites and are greatly weakened when they have to pass through anything other than air
  • Use the app outdoors and in open terrain. In forests and near cliffs, it remains difficult to obtain your exact location

If the above steps do not work, it means that your smartphone's GPS chip may be of poor quality or damaged. On some devices, over time, the electrical contacts between the GPS chip and the built-in antenna in your smartphone become dirty, making it difficult to obtain a GPS location.

The only solution to obtain a correct track is to regularly wake up the app while waiting for an update from the manufacturer.

Specific settings for Android devices

Some manufacturers have recently tightened their policy regarding background tasks for third-party applications, such as Visorando. A recent update on their latest devices forces these tasks to shut down to save battery power when the device is in standby mode. This can affect track recording, resulting in straight lines.

To overcome this, first check these settings:

  1. Enable notifications. To do this, go to your device's settings, then Apps > Visorando > Notifications and enable Allow notifications
  2. Enable GPS location and allow the app to use your location before launching the app by going to Apps > Visorando > Permissions
  3. Disable Wi-Fi Scanning and Bluetooth Scanning in the advanced location settings

Samsung

If the option to disable battery optimisation is no longer available, please do the following:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Visorando > Battery
  2. Select Unrestricted

This procedure will need to be repeated from time to time, as Samsung updates often reset app optimisation settings.

Also check in Settings > Device care > Battery

  1. Power saving: disable
  2. Background usage limits:
    • Go to Never auto sleeping apps and add Visorando via the +
    • Go to Deep sleeping apps: if Visorando appears in the list, tap the 3 vertical dots in the top right corner, then tap Remove, select Visorando and tap Remove

Huawei

  • Go to Settings > Battery > App launch > Visorando and enable Background execution

Xiaomi

In Settings > Apps > Visorando:

  1. Automatic start-up: Enabled
  2. Other permissions (or authorisations): enable the last 3 options (or all of them if that is not sufficient)
  3. Battery saver: select No restrictions

Note: The names of the controls may vary slightly from one device to another.

In the quick launch screen where recently opened apps are displayed (it usually appears after pressing and holding the Menu button on the phone; otherwise, check the device manual):

  • Scroll through the apps until you find the screen corresponding to Visorando. Swipe this screen downwards (or if that doesn't work, press and hold it), which will lock the application to prevent the recording from being accidentally interrupted.

If the Visorando screen does not appear in the quick launch, please open Visorando before repeating the lock step.

Zigzags

The zigzag issue was observed on certain Samsung devices running Android 14, as well as on some Xiaomi devices.

To fix this, please follow these instructions:

  1. Open the app and tap Menu in the top left corner
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Set the Recording GPS precision to 25 metres
  4. Next, go to Advanced Settings
  5. Tap GPS location provider
  6. Select Native Android

If the problem persists despite these settings, please let us know via the contact form, specifying the device model and Android version.
